I thought it was great to have the Rose Queen be from LCHS!!

PASADENA (KTLA) -- Evanne Friedmann, the 93 Rose Queen of 122nd Pasadena Tournament of Roses received her crown Thursday in an official coronation ceremony at the Pasadena Convention Center.

The seven young ladies of the Royal Court also debuted the beautiful halter-neck gowns provided by designer Tadashi Shoji. "The gowns are stunning," exclaimed the newly crowned Queen. "We absolutely love them and we truly feel like princesses in them."

17 year old Rose Queen Evanne Elizabeth Friedmann attends La Canada High School and lives in La Canada Flintridge.

She is a member of National Charity League, the National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, an AP scholar and has been in the Girl Scouts for 13 years.

Evanne is active in the concert choir at her school and serves as the senior class videographer. She was a model between the ages of 8 and 12, which sparked a passion for film and performance.

As an official ambassador of the Tournament of Roses, Queen Evanne will participate in approximately 150 community and media functions. She will reign with Rose Princesses Tatyane Anaid Berrios of Arcadia High School, Sarah Christine Fredrickson of Maranatha High School, Jessica Michelle Montoya of Flintridge Preparatory School, Tenaya Miyoko Senzaki of Pasadena High School, Kathryn Morris Thomson of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and Michelle Kaye Washington of Pasadena City College.

While I only attended Friday night and met a few of the old classmates, it was great to see those who made it and become reaquainted with many of you. It was interesting to hear where life has led people, how we have lived our lives, and how we have changed over the years. I think everyone had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

I'd like to thank those who worked to put this reunion together and make it happen. Thank you for your time and effort. It was a nice event and good choice of venue. Also, thank you to everyone who made it an enjoyable evening. I was a bit surprised with how many of you remembered me, which made me feel welcomed and glad I attended. Thank you everyone!

As of 9/03/09, all evacuations in La Canada and La Crescenta, both voluntary and mandatory, have all been lifted! It was also announced this afternoon that fire investigators have determined that the fire was caused by arson. With the death of the two firefighters, this make the arson a homicide.

Much of the fire activity is moving into the San Gabriel Canyon area above Azusa and just to west of Hwy. 39, and to the northeast into Devils Canyon and Chilao, which is not good news for me. As a result of this eastward movement, the Forest Service announced that the entire eastern main body of the Angeles National Forest (which includes yours truly in Wrightwood) will be closed effective 12:00 p.m. 9/3/09 until full containment of the Station Fire.

The latest stats are as follows:

-- Officials said the fire has burned 144,743 acres

-- The fire is 38 percent contained, with full containment expected on Sept. 15

-- Two firefighters battling fire were killed in a vehicle crash; 6 injuries reported

-- 94 structures have been destroyed

-- 12,500 homes, structures threatened

-- It has cost $27 million dollars to fight the fire

As of 9/2/09, 9:00 AM:

-- Officials said the fire has burned 140,150 acres.

-- The fire is 22 percent contained, with full containment expected on Sept. 15.

-- Two firefighters battling fire were killed in a vehicle crash; 12 injuries reported.

-- 62 homes, 3 commercial structures have been destroyed.

-- 12,500 homes, structures threatened.

-- It has cost $21 million dollars to fight the fire.

-- Most of the evacuations in La Canada and La Crescenta have been lifted

The fire is spreading to the east, both north and south. Firefighters are going to shift their focus to the Pasadena, Sierra Madre and Monrovia areas today.

Mt. Wilson was largely spared, as firefighters had been doing clearance and backfires for several days.

The fire has burned through Charleton Flats and Chilao, and the situation at Newcombs Ranch is unknown.

If the current path continues, Wrightwood may be threatened in the next 24-36 hrs., which means I could be in trouble! We'll see how things play out during the day today.

The fire is now at 127,500 acres, with 22% containment. Now for a little good news! Most of the evacuations in La Canada, La Crescenta and Altadena were lifted at 4:00 PM this afternoon:

-- West of Arroyo Seco Rd. to Alta Canada, north of Olive LaneVago Street West to Linda.
-- All areas west of Arroyo Seco Rd. at Ocean View Blvd, south of Canalda Drive

Altadena:
-- Fair Oaks Ave. west to Arroyo Seco Rd.
-- North of W. Loma Alta Dr between Aralia Rd and Fair Oaks Ave

La Canada Unfied is going to try to open the schools tomorrow, 9/2

The fire is far from being contained, but at least we are making a little bit of headway!

As of 9/1/09 8:30 AM, the fire is now 121,272 acres with 5% containment. That is just a number, but to give you a little perspective, the entire city of San Francisco would fit in the fire area, with room to spare.

Most of the prior evacuation areas are still in place - see the last post.

The most active area this morning is in Tujunga, with fire coming down the hill towards Verdugo Hills High School - which is itself an evacuation center. Will have another update later this afternoon.

Hi everyone out there!

I am on the other side of "the Crest" in Palmdale. My neighbor is a fireman out of a station out of Acton. He managed to get home for a quick rest. He says that we will lose towers on Mt. Wilson. It's not a matter of if but when. My dad still lives on La Canada Blvd below OLive Lane and is okay there.

My family and I were going to wash our van yesterday...guess that can wait!!!

My heart is with you all and with your families as I read of the devastation of this latest fire. I was so relieved to hear that no homes were lost, at least so far, but was saddened to read of the firefighters who lost their lives. I pray that the fire will be contained and that everyone will be able to return to their homes & lives.

As of 8/31/09 8:30 AM the fire is now at 85,760 acres, and continues to grow. Forest Service fire and hot shot crews from Wyoming and South Dakota arrived yesterday to assist. Two Super Scooper air tankers have also arrived from Canada.

Two LA County firefighters died on Mt. Gleason in the Tujunga area Sunday afternoon. The firefighters were overrun by fire, and were attempting to get out when their truck overturned on a fire road and rolled down a canyon in zero visibilty due to the smoke.

Most of the prior mandatory evacuations in the LC area are still in place, however residents only are now allowed back into the area of Vista Del Valle Road west of Angeles Crest Highway and La Canada Boulevard north to El Vago Street west to Linda Vista Drive north to Alta Canyada Drive.

The fire continues to spread to the north and east, and structures have been lost in the Acton/Soledad Canyon area. Will have another update later this afternoon.

As of 8:00 PM 8/30/09, the fire is now at roughly 42,500 acres. The southern front, in the LC area, is beginning to stabilize, although there are still some hot spots. Most of the earlier evacuations posted are still in place, although some residents are being allowed into some of the lower neighborhoods on Ocean View.

To the west, the Sunland Tujunga area is seeing some major problems and flare-ups.

To the north, the fire is moving into the Acton-Soledad Canyon area.

To the east, the fire is moving through the Angeles National Forest above Altadena and Pasadena, and is about a mile from the towers in Mt. Wilson. Officials expect the fire to overrun Mt. Wilson during the night, and begin moving east (which could affect me in a few days, if the fire stays on its current path).

Some areas have been re-opened to residents only, but as far as I know, these are still under mandatory evacuation:

-- Starlight Crest Drive north to Green Ridge Court, including Forest Green Drive;
-- Big Briar Way at Haskel;
-- Donna Maria Lane, Indian Drive, Hacienda Drive, Alta Canada Road north of Lida Vista, La Canada Boulevard north of El Vago Street

I understand there will be a residents meeting this evening at LCHS with fire personnel, so there may be some changes after that. If anyone in LC has more current info than this, please post it!

Thanks for doing this...watching online closely as my folks still have the home just off of Starlight Crest and my brothers home is highest up along the brush in La Crescenta. They were evacuated at 2:30 am from their home on Pinelawn. I can think of numerous high school friends whose houses were up high in La Canada. Sounds as though it is getting better now. Looks to me like Starlight Crest is no longer in danger. Is that true?

No houses have burned in LCF yet. Very close to La Forest , Alta Canyada,Starlight Crest areas.The water copters are pulling water from the golf course ponds and that area seems to be holding the line. Big Tujunga Canyon lost three homes and 30 cabins within the National Forest. The area in north Altadena (La Vina), the meadows areas are evacuated but no homes lost. The fire is to Lake Ave. Still not at Mt. Wilson. On the map it is not to Red Box Ranger Station. Headed over the hill to Acton and Santa Clarita. Last night the top of Ramsdell, Rosemont, Briggs and Ocean View were burning to the last ridge before homes. The smoke is horrible early in the morning after 4am and then clears out around 1pm. 8% humidity no wind 90+ degrees!

There have been some close calls, but so far no houses in La Canada have been lost. Aerial water and phoschek drops have been made directly on the houses where the fire has burned up to the backyards. The only structures lost have been to the west in the Big Tujunga Canyon area.
FYI, Vista Del Valle has been re-opened in the last few hours to residents only...A little bit of good news!

So sorry to hear about the fire issues in La Canada. I grew up on Vista Del Valle does anyone know if houses have been lost? I have many memories of my Dad and brother up on the roof with hoses. Bob and Kim White (our grad class) nearly lost thier huge home in Rancho Sante Fe last year. We have had a 30 second news cast on it here in Denver. My sympathy goes out to any who have had loses due to fire.
