Very sad to hear about Deena. Liked her so much, along with her sister Karen (one of our Girl Scout leaders!), and her folks. Small world- went to UCSB with her husband-to-be, Ken. Deena was a really great person- wish we had not lost touch after college years.
Even while living far apart, I stood in contact during all the years since graduation. And the same with our children: they have become friends over the ocean. I am so sorry about the hard time my hostsister Deena had to go through and sad sad to loose her. Christina (host student from Switzerland to LCHS 73/74 with Deena).
How sad to hear of Deena's passing. Deena was in our Gilr Scouts troop. She was a leader among us girls. She was grounded in herself, and followed her interests, intellect. I looked up to Deena. I have not kept in touch with many LCHS graduates, I like to hear the stories. Now, it is sad to hear of our friends passing away. It is our life, and each day is precious. I remember being with Deena when we would sing Christmas carols at the elder nursing homes. I loved going to sing for the elders. God Bless you Deena, on our Journey Home.
Earlier this summer my husband and I took a bucket list trip to Italy and Greece. On our first full day in Rome I had a small tour scheduled to go to the Vatican. The tour guide asked us where we had come from. I have been living in Colorado for the last 48 years. The man next to me said he was from California. I asked him where he was from and he told me a town in northern California I had never heard of, and I told him that I was originally from a small town in southern Calif. I told him I was from La Canada, and he looked at me and was stunned. He told me his late wife was also from there. She had gone to LCHS just as I had. I aked her name. Deena Stanley. Unreal. Half a century later, half way around the world and we meet. In the last 50 years nearly a billion people from around the world have visited the Vatican. What are the chances? Was this just a coincidence, serendipity or Divine Intervention? By the end of the conversation we both had tears in our eyes. How amazing. Rest in Peace Deena. You will be loved forever.
